Our ProgramsUnderage Drinking Program Initiative - STOP is dedicated to preventing underage drinking through education, enforcement, and environmental change. Our programs include:
- Prom Promise signed by students promising to not drink and drive on prom night
- Mock Accidents at schools before prom
- Alcohol free after-prom parties
- Responsible beverage server training
- Merchant Education for clerks who sell alcohol
- Sticker shock in which alcohol containers are affixed with reminders for adults
- Assessment of stores for alcohol advertising
- Environmental Scan - students took photos of positive/negative influences in the communities. Link to follow.
Children's Programs - STOP works with children to begin prevention at a young age. In some cases, prevention efforts are focused in areas where children already gather. STOP provides support to children's programs  throughout Mingo County in order to maximize the prevention efforts. Prevention education programs recommended by the federal agencies and where they are implemented include:
- Keep a Clear Mind - Sunday Schools and Vacation Bible Schools
- Project Toward No Drug Abuse - Summer Day Camps
- Too Good for Drugs and Violence - After-school programs
- Positive Action - Adolescent Wellness Program (Saturdays for teens)
- Natural Helpers - teen peer support program
- Pre-teen Issues Days- educates tweens on various topics
Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention - STOP is working with the University of Charleston Pharmacy School students to develop and distribute information regarding proper use, storage, and disposal of controlled prescription medications. The information will be placed with the prescriptions at the pharmacies.
